Year 3 History

This week in their History learning, Year 3 baked biscuits using a genuine ration recipe from the 1940s. The most interesting ingredient was mashed potato! The children enjoyed learning about how difficult rationing could be and how people on the Home Front had to be super creative with their cooking. Lollies made out of real carrots for Easter didn't seem to be a hit though!

Class 3SS English

This half term we have been creative in learning how calligrams are structured, how to add imagery and then create our own. The children chose their own animal to describe and then designed their own calligrams ready to display.

Class 3SS Maths

As part of our learning objectives around telling the time, we practised timing events. Each pair had several tasks to do whilst timing each other using a stopwatch. A very engaging activity seeing how long it takes to write your name 20 times, do 50 star jumps and even to find Psalm 100 in the Bible!

Year 4 Sponsored Silence In English

As part of their fundraising efforts for Bwengu, Year 4 carried out a sponsored silence for 40 minutes! As this coincided with one of our English lessons, they had to be very independent in writing their poems without any help or any prompting from Ms Clark or Mrs Calder. Nobody spoke and everybody produced a lovely poem about an Easter egg by the end of the lesson.

Well done Year 4!

Class 5F RE

In RE this term, 5F have been looking at Christian values that we live by today. This week we were discussing the importance of honesty. The bible story of Zaccheaus, who was a liar and a thief whose life was transformed the day he climbed a tree and met with Jesus, was the basis of our opera! With the stage in place each group created a musical response full of emotion and we put it all together to recreate the story!

Year 5 have been taking part in a Practical Action project. The task was to find ways to transport tomatoes down mountains for farmers in Nepal. The pupils created and tested pulley systems to transport tomatoes across two metres in the classroom. An incredible 149 tomatoes were transported within two minutes by the winning team!

Year 5 Film Editing - Final Movie Projects - Crescent's own answer to the Oscars!

As part of their unit in Computing on film editing, 5F worked industriously and creatively in groups to create the most amazing final movie projects. Not only did they plan, script, act and film the whole thing, they then used their new skills to cut and trim their film, adding amazing effects like sounds, filters, slow motion, wipes and fades! Please click on the link below to see their Oscar winning productions, possibly the first ever movies from the next generation of Spielbergs and Christopher Nolans!

Class 6W Responsibility Rotas

As we approach the end of term, 6W have to look forward to new roles and responsibilities as they change to the final duty team of the year; this involves working out fairly who should do which role.

They have learnt through the year to listen, take turns and to share.

Class 6W MFL

Class 6W have been learning about Easter customs and celebrations in Spanish speaking countries. They watched a video clip about the beautiful floor coverings that are created from dyed sawdust in the churches and streets of Guatemala. They are a symbol of gratitude for the gift of life. Here are the Year 6 pupils colouring their own variation of ‘una alfombra’.
