Outdoor Learning In The Summer Term

Next term we are looking forward to the our Outdoor Learning programme for all of the children across the school from Years 1 to 6. This will replace swimming for the final term and will take place each week and in the same slot on the timetable.

Outdoor Learning will consist of a combination of Forest School activities as well as orienteering, team building and leadership skills training. This is a structured and fully planned series of activities that will develop collaborative work skills while enhancing children's growth mindset in problem solving situations. It will also give them the opportunity to learn and work outdoors during the warmer period of the year.

What to wear:

Pupils will need to bring a long sleeved t-shirt, long bottoms, a change of trainers and socks and a pair of gloves to be able to safely take part in the activities. They can either wear their school coat or send in a suitable waterproof coat. All of this needs to be put in a named bag that can be left on their peg for the term. Please ensure all items of home clothes are named.

Year 4 Production Jack And The Beanstalk

I am pleased to announce our Year 4 production this year will be Jack And The Beanstalk.

Over the Easter holidays please could you discuss costumes with your child. Most children are farmyard animals so will need something that suggests their animal. Eg A chicken could be yellow socks pulled up, brown trousers/jeans, a red t-shirt and a rubber glove stuck to a headband. I encourage you to be creative with your children and make the costumes from items you already have at home. This not only saves money but gives wonderful opportunities to be creative and spend time talking about their character.

Please can these costumes be brought into school on Monday 22 April in a named carrier bag. It would be very helpful if every item of costume could be named to help prevent loss. These costumes will then be left in school in my room so they are here for the dress rehearsal and performance later in the term. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to email me.

Thank you in advance for your creativity and support. Have fun!

Kind regards

Year 3 Production Bombs And Blackberries

I am pleased to announce our Year 3 production is Bombs And Blackberries by Julia Donaldson and Thomas Docherty.

Over the Easter holidays please could you discuss costumes with your child. Most children are evacuees so will need something that suggests this. Eg summer school uniform with long white socks is perfect for this. They will all need a box wrapped up in brown parcel paper to represent a gas mask. I encourage you to be creative with your children and make the costumes from items you already have at home. This not only saves money but gives wonderful opportunities to be creative and spend time talking about their character.

Please can these costumes be brought into school on Monday 22 April in a named carrier bag. (If using the summer school uniform please send the gas mask box with a note to let me know they will have their dress/shorts on the day of the performance.) It would be very helpful if every item of costume could be named to help prevent loss. These costumes will then be left in school in my room so they are here for the dress rehearsal and performance later in the term. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to email me.

Thank you in advance for your creativity and support. Have fun!

Reception Swimming

Reception Children will be having their 'taster swimming session' in the Trinity Term. The taster session is to show children the school swimming process, with going on the bus, getting to the swimming pool, navigating the swimming pool and meeting the Rugby School swimming teachers.

Children will all be put into buoyancy aids to begin with as swimming teachers begin their assessment process for safety at this session. It is a fun taster session and their swimming level assessment will take place in September.

Please ensure swimming kit is brought in on the morning of their swim, children can wear their own swimming costumes/swim caps for this taster but they will need to have Crescent school swimming kit for September.  This can be ordered via the uniform order form.

I would be grateful if you could complete the form below with your child's swimming information to aid with ratios etc. by Sunday 21 April 2024.

Return Of Reading Books

We have a broad and stimulating range of reading scheme books for all children across the school. However, we do periodically suffer from books not being returned to school, which leaves us short.

As such, please could we ask all parents to check carefully at home and return to school any books they find at the start of Trinity Term. Books can be sent in with your child or you can leave them in the unifom box outside the main school entrance.

With thanks as always.
