U11s ISA Regionals Tag Rugby 7s Championship

The 'little school with big ambitions' motto could not have been truer on Friday as our two Crescent teams gave superb accounts of themselves at the U11s ISA Rugby at Princethorpe.

The A team sailed through their initial group, winning all five of their matches with real style and determination, qualifying for the afternoon finals in first place. Not to be outdone the B side (mostly Year 5s playing up a year) also did fantastically in their group, with two wins, two very narrow losses and an all important draw, meaning they finished 2nd in their group of six, also qualifying for the finals.

In a bizarre and unfortunate quirk of fate, this meant the As and Bs were drawn against each other in an all-Crescent knock-out semi final! Despite a very end-to-end game and some excellent weaving runs from the Bs, the A side emerged on top, their tight defence proving the difference between the teams.

This (again very coincidentally and strangely) then led to the Bs playing Crackley 'B' for 3rd place overall, and the As in the final against Crackley 'A', a seriously strong showing from the Foundation hosting the event!

Unfortunately both games went exactly the same way, a couple of early errors by Crescent, not helped by the horrendous rainstorm, enabling the Crackley sides to get ahead and despite strong comebacks, hold out for wins. This meant that out of 12 teams there on the day, Crescent finished both 2nd (having only lost 1 game all day) and 4th, seriously amazing results for such a small school!

The entire Crescent squad should be enormously proud of themselves, playing with skill, determination, resilience and wonderful sporting spirit throughout the entire tournament.

Players of the tournament were Timi for the As and Maxi for the Bs, although every single player left with their heads held very high 🏉

ISA Midlands U9 Girls Netball

The U9 Netball girls had a great day out in the sunshine at Stafford Prep on Tuesday 19 March.

12 schools had entered the tournament with Crescent taking part in the 7-a-side competition alongside four other schools.

The girls enjoyed plenty of netball playing with enthusisam and determination, winning two matches and losing two.

  • Tettenhall School - 6-0 win
  • Twycross House - 5-3 loss
  • Crackley Hall - 4-2 loss
  • Mylnhurst Prep 3-1 win

The girls finished joint 3rd on points, just missing out on the Bronze medal on goal difference.

There was lots of development and improvement throughout the day. Well done to them all.

U8 & U9 Netball @ Bilton Grange

A lovely finish to the netball season for the Year 3 and 4 girls who travelled to Bilton Grange for a netball festival. All teams had plenty of netball, playing lots of short matches against every team having the opportunity to play in lots of different positions and try out all of the skills they have learnt over the last term. All of the girls performed well and were a credit to the school.

Great work all.

Mrs McCollin, Mrs Dowling, Ms Clarke, Mrs Calder and a special thanks to Mrs Williams for her help too.
