Dear Parents and Friends of the School

Autumn has turned to winter this week, and we have celebrated in style today with our traditional Christmas Art Day. With all of the stray cuttings and excess glitter (biodegradable, of course) this creates, it is a day I feel a little sorry for our cleaners, but we have given them a little extra treat this year to say thank you. The children have had a great time, of course, and if you are able to come to our open corridors event next Wednesday, I am sure you will enjoy seeing the fruits of their labour.

Despite the change in the temperatures, our music and sports events of the week have gone ahead successfully. Another 15 children took their ABRSM exams on Monday, and we look forward to announcing their results in our Good News assembly in due course. Also on the music front, we had the amazing news this week that two of our Year 5 pupils Alex B and Edward M have been selected for the National Brass Band of Great Britain, no less, where they will join three other old Crescentians who are already there. The children deserve all the plaudits, but we must give a special mention to Di Fisher who runs our brass teaching programme here for her skill and dedication to this over so many years. I am looking forward to watching our children play in the Silver Band Concert in Hillmorton next week as well. It should be a great treat.

Games afternoons and the rugby fixture on Wednesday went ahead despite some chilly conditions, well done to all who took part and kept going.

On a House note, it was lovely to see many of the St Andrew’s children wearing a flash of blue on 30 November to celebrate their saint’s day. St David’s, you are next, but you will have to wait until 1 March.

Many thanks to all of you who have already generously donated towards our Salvation Army appeal, in the form of new toys for local children, and to the Christmas Bazaar raffle as well. It is this combination of celebration and thinking of others that is a Christmas message we can all share and sets a great example to our children, whatever their own beliefs and cultures.

Have a great weekend everyone.
