Welcome to The Courier, Crescent School's e-newsletter.

Lots of comings and goings this week with Years 4 and 5 enjoying their residentials. Well done to everyone who took part, we were impressed with your enthusiasm for all the activities.

Back in school it has been just as busy with plenty going on in lessons and we even found time to kick start Year 6s celebrations. Year 6 look smart in their hoodies (our cover photo). No doubt they will get plenty of good use at their Slapton Ley residential next week.

Do keep an eye on the Events section, for updates for the term ahead and read on to find out what else has been happening in school this week.

Headmaster's Message

Headmaster's Message

Dear Parents

We are now fully in the swing of the summer term and that means many things here at school, one of which, that has been in the spotlight this week, being residential trips. Year 4 and 5 both left the school on Wednesday morning in fine form, excited and looking forward to the change of scenery and pace of life that awaited them. With the Year 6s soon to follow next week, by the time half term comes all of the children in upper school will have had the chance to experience this exciting part of the school adventure.

Wednesday morning was a particularly all action one, with the celebration breakfast taking place for the Year 6 children as the others were leaving onto the buses. This breakfast is a relatively new tradition which is much welcomed by the children and is a way of saying well done to them for successfully negotiating the trials and tribulations of their final year in primary school. The balance of our year is very much focused on entrance exams, which come in the autumn term, and it's a wonderful opportunity in the final two terms for the children to spread their wings a little and explore other aspects of learning and life in general. Next term they have community week to look forward to as well as the school play, leavers’ service, sports day, the list goes on.

You will see many of them in the next few weeks wearing their smart new navy hoodies, courtesy of the Friends of Crescent. Many thanks to the Friends, and therefore all of you, for making this possible.

On the subject of the Friends, you will have noticed a news story in the Courier recently on our lovely new play panels in the Cosy Corner (formerly known as the Quiet Area, but renamed following a naming competition and School Council vote). This space on the playground is coming along nicely and provides a really lovely refuge for those children who want to play the quieter games and perhaps sit and chat or read. We have also got some lovely new soft toys arriving in the corner, thanks to a very generous parental donation, and you will be hearing more about those in the very near future.

Whatever you have planned for the weekend, I hope you have a restful one. I am looking forward to seeing my brother who is visiting from Taiwan where he has been living for a number of years. It is a beautiful but troubled part of the world in some ways and it will be good to catch up with all of his stories.

With my best wishes.

Ensuring You Receive Emails From Crescent School

At Crescent we do everything possible on our own systems to ensure all correspondents receive emails from the school. However, sometimes emails do not get through to parents due to automated filters on email providers, such as Gmail or Outlook. Most email providers allow you to whitelist email addresses and domains, so you will always receive emails from these addresses to your inbox. Therefore, it is sensible to do this for the crescentschool.co.uk domain to ensure no emails from the school end up in your spam or junk folders.

The following link shows you how to whitelist email addresses and domains for a variety of popular email providers: How to Whitelist an Email in Gmail, Outlook, and Yahoo

If you have any issues with receiving emails from Crescent and would like support with this, please email servicedesk@princethorpe.co.uk with details of the issue and one of our team will be in touch to help.

FoC Summer Fete And Crescent School 75th Anniversary Celebrations

By now you should have received your Classlist invite to the annual Friends of Crescent Summer Fete. This year we are excited to be hosting it on Saturday 10 June from 12pm -2.30pm to coincide with the School's 75th anniversary celebrations.

As the event is on a Saturday we have designed it to suit the whole family, so in addition to the usual stalls and inflatables there will be a licensed bar, hot food and ice creams.

Entry is free of charge, but if the children would like to play the games on the stalls they will require a game card which is £5. Cards with five stamps or more can be handed in to receive a prize. Game cards are available through Classlist. If you are not on Classlist please use the following link https://app.classlist.com/events/#/events/view/986071211

Raffle tickets can be purchased either through Classlist or on the day itself.

As always we would love your support to help make the event a success so if you can spare 30-45 minutes to help run a stall at the event we would be eternally grateful!  We would also appreciate any raffle and tombola donations that you are able to make. Please drop these off either at reception or at the pupil entrance during drop-off from now until Monday 5 June.

Finally this year the profits of our teddy bear stall will go to Pawprints Dog Rescue - which the school is supporting this term. If you have any teddies that are in need of a new home please drop them into school!

Year 6 Start Their Celebrations With A Treat

Year 6 enjoyed a Celebration Breakfast on Wednesday 17 May and Chef Mrs Miliopoulos and her team had laid on a super spread. The children have worked hard this year, handled their examinations so well, and at all times been excellent role models for the pupils in the lower school.

Breakfast was laid out in the hall with cereals, pastries, fruit and fruit juice to choose from and Year 6 made short work of the tasty feast.

The children were also presented with their Leavers' Hoodies and they were quick to put them on. Now a tradition for most schools, the hoodies will always be a tangible memory of their time at Crescent and their fellow pupils. They all looked so smart. We took them straight outside for a photo. A huge thank you to the FoC for providing them!

Class 3S Pen Licence

It is always an exciting time for the children when they gain their pen licence, enabling them to make the move from writing in pencil to pen.

For this rite of passage, the children have to show that they can write neatly and consistently in cursive, joined handwriting in all of their work, not just handwriting tasks.

Amber has shown pride in the presentation of all of her learning tasks and has been awarded a Pen Licence and her first handwriting pen.

Well done!

U10s 6-Aside PC Football Tournament

Crescent U10s travelled over to Princethorpe on a very sunny evening to take part in a very fast-paced and highly competitive 6-aside tournament. Despite losing their opening match 3-0 to a very strong, physical Grange Farm side, Crescent rallied superbly with a comprehensive 2-0 victory over Crackley and a dominant 0-0 draw against a resolute Hampton Primary. This meant a second place finish in their group and a third place play-off match against Crick, the runners-up of the other side of the draw. Again Crescent dominated play, Timi coming close to breaking the deadlock on four separate occasions, but just couldn't find the winner. This however meant the excitement of penalties and chance for heroes to be made. Crescent's hero on this occasion was Edward G-H, who pulled off two outstanding saves in goal, allowing Timi and Alex T to slot one home, taking a 2-1 win and an overall third place finish out of the 10 teams. Special mentions for the whole squad for excellent application and attitude, Player of the Tournament going to Ed G-H for his fantastic goalkeeping throughout.

U8A Mixed Cricket Tournament

On Thursday, it was the turn of the Year 3 children to head over to Edgbaston for the Hallfield cricket tournament.

The seven children who took part competed in three games, and it was great to see the enthusiasm that they all brought to the afternoon and the development of their cricketing skills.

In the three matches, they managed one victory against Crackley Hall, and two narrow defeats against Solihull and Warwick. Thomas was named man of the match and the highlight of his day was hitting 5 sixes off one single over to win a match that we were behind in.

U9A Cricket Tournament

The Year 4 team travelled to Hallfield School for their annual Cricket Tournament on Tuesday 16 May.

Their first game was against the host school, Crescent won the toss and went into field first.  Some solid bowling and sharp fielding from all of the team kept Hallfield to 44 runs with Crescent taking one wicket.

Crescent went in to bat, coming up against some exceptional bowlers who took a total of seven wickets increasing their score to 79. Zac, Lewis and Maxi all found the boundary a number of times to take Crescent up to 67. A competitive first game.

Our second match was against Warwick who had some very big hitters, who scored a number of 6s to score a whopping 131, Crescent again did their best to match this hitting a number of 4s to total 84.  Another good strong game.

The final game was against Abberly Hall. Consistent bowling saw Ed and Maxi take a wicket while Abberly scored 64.  Crescent had now got their eye in when batting and where able to reply with 89 runs.

A great learning experience for all, with everybody making fantastic progress and having a fabulous time. Player of the tournament was awarded to Aryaan for his fantastic team spirit.

Mrs McCollin and Mrs Calder

U11A Girls Cricket Tournament

On Wednesday it was the U11 Girls' turn to travel to Hallfield School for their pairs cricket tournament.

The first game saw Crescent take a win against Norfolk House taking seven wickets and scoring 102 to their 47.

The team's second match was against Bromsgrove School, it was a tightly contested game where the girls took five wickets, however Bromsgrove's fielding was solid holding us to 59 to their 70.

In the final game we came up against a well rehearsed RGS Worcester, whose strong batting saw them find the boundary on numerous occasions.

Overall a great afternoon of cricket, the U11s are looking forward to their next fixture.

A fantastic team effort saw lots of growth and development in all areas of the game, setting the team up for an exciting season. Player of the tournament awarded to Ellie.
