U10s Boys Festival Of Football - Repton Prep

The U10s travelled over to Repton Festival of Football on Saturday in very high spirits, and this immediately translated into some superb football on the pitch. The 1st game saw Crescent overcome the home side Repton Lions 2-0, Sam B scoring twice following super link-up play with Timi and Akaal.

The U10s triumphed again in their second match, playing some very accomplished football to beat Fairfield Prep on a truly enormous pitch. The final score was 1-0, although could have been many more with Crescent dominant throughout, Sam B again on the scoresheet, this time Henry the provider. Still recovering from their first two matches, Crescent then came up against a very strong RGS side, and despite a valiant effort lost 3-1. Akaal’s superbly well-worked goal in this game was incidentally the only one RGS conceded over the whole tournament.

Crescent bounced back superbly in their 4th match, beating Repton Tigers 2-0 in a very physical encounter. Sam B and Alex G scored the goals, while Alex and Shiv in defence and Zac in goal were fantastic at the back. Their final game saw Crescent come up against old rivals Crackley with the boys again victorious, Timi scoring with a fantastic strike to take the 1-0 victory. This left Crescent firmly in second place out of the six teams having won four of their five games, their only loss to the unbeaten RGS.

It would be impossible to pick just one player of the tournament due to the level of effort, teamwork and determination shown by every player in the squad:

  • Zac and Alex G who were outstanding in goal,
  • Shiv and Alex T who were calm and composed in defence,
  • Henry, Sam and Akaal who were creative and full of energy in midfield
  • Timi who played his number 9 role to perfection.

Hockey Round Up

U9 Girls Hockey V Twycross House
Crescent started strong driving the ball hard from the start, pushing up into the attacking D, and after several attempts by Roisin and Sophia, Roisin was able to score the first goal with some help from Mya. We continued to attack well, moving the ball well down the wings and crossing in to the D but struggled to find the back of the goal again.

In the 2nd third unfortunately Roisin suffered a head injury and had to be taken off the pitch for assessment whilst the rest of the team continued to attack. MingYi and Sophia continued to work hard in midfield and Sophie covered well in defence with Nora with Toni leading the attack up front but unfortunately we lost some of our shape allowing Tywcross to capitalise and score 2 goals. Entering the final 1/3rd Twycross kindly offered a spare player to even up the numbers. The girls continued to work hard running their socks off and gaining most of the possession but unfortunately we could not find that equalising or winning goal.

Great determination and grit shown by all players. Player of the game awarded to MingYi.

U9A vs King Henry's
A great game was played between two evenly matched teams. However strong tackling and movement from Crescent's midfield went unrewarded as the girls couldn't quite find the goal they were looking for. A goal mouth scramble resulted in a goal for King Henry's just before half time. The second half was similar with the girls working hard to move the ball in to spaces and connect some passes. A well worked free hit from King Henry's saw the ball travel to an unmarked player who was clinical in scoring their second goal. All the girls worked hard and should be very pleased with their effort especially Sophia who had an outstanding game.

U11 A V King Henry's
The team have made fantastic progress this term and have really gelled as a squad. The girls put up an impressive performance of hockey led superbly by captain Ellie in the middle of field and by Ava in the defensive D, who was always talking to her players when Henry’s attacked. Lots of short corner practice, with Ellie injecting the ball hard to Bella who would lay it off to Grace or back to Ellie to have a go for goal.  A great match well done girls Final result 3-0 win.  Player of the Game was awarded to Esme.

Well played all.

U8 Hockey V King Henry’s U9B Team
Our U8 girls put up a fantastic display of attacking hockey against King Henry’s on Tuesday night up at Rugby College.  We went out with determination, gaining possession quickly from a King Henry’s push back.  Amber, Evelyn and Esme dominated the game in midfield reading the ball well to make quick interceptions from any King Henry’s free hits to drive the ball quickly forward with Evelyn scoring the first goal, with Charlotte in support in the D.

The 2nd half started well with Aria, Ella and Nimeeta pressing the ball hard in defence, going to meet the player and putting in strong block tackles to gain possession and stop the attack.  Strong attacking play from Amber, Esme and Evelyn again with Lilah helping in attack saw Crescent find the back of the goal three more times, but unfortunately none of the balls were touched inside our attacking D so could not be counted, a learning experience for all.

A very good performance by all players.  Final Score 1-0 Win.  Player of the game to Amber.

U11B vs King Henry's
An excited squad arrived in Coventry raring to go, Tegan was especially happy to be putting on the goalie kit for her first match. Crescent had a dominant first half, with the outstanding work rate ensuring that the ball rarely left Crescent's attacking half. Capitalising on this pressure Lara carefully slotted the ball into the goal. In the second half Crescent had lots more of the play but were unable to score any more goals. Erin was voted player of the match.

A big thank you to Saira and Grace M who kindly volunteered to play for the opposition for a half each. I could see real improvement this term, well done.

Football Round Up

Twycross House U9’s ‘A’   0  -   2   Crescent U9’s ‘A’
Crescent continued their unbeaten start to the season with a comfortable win away at Twycross. Quickly out of the blocks, Zac and Henry combined well to send Akaal through to the goal, who finished with deadly precision. Playing on a pitch that was much smaller than usual led to a very congested game, but Crescent were able to double their lead just before the break, Zac heading into the net from a powerful Maxi throw into the box. The second half saw multiple chances at both ends, but super defensive work from Sam, Lewis, Aryaan and Ed denied the Twycross attacks, leaving the final score at 2-0. Maxi was voted player of the match by the opposition for his strong tackling and long-range throws.

Twycross House U9’s ‘B’   2  -   6   Crescent U9’s ‘B’
Crescent B really impressed in their second game of the season, wasting no time in taking the lead against Twycross, Matthew firing in from close range. The visitors were then able to dominate throughout, Max, Shaylan and Herbie working superbly together to give Crescent the majority of the possession and territory. Captain Matthew continued to be deadly in front of goal, scoring a further five goals to complete a magnificent double hat-trick, and despite Twycross grabbing two goals back in reply, the defence stayed solid to ensure a fantastic 6-2 win. Player of the match was deservedly Matthew, with Max a very close second.
