Headmaster's Message

Headmaster's Message

Dear Parents

We finished the term by welcoming back some happy and probably very tired children from their residential visit to Rock UK. I hope by now they have all been able to recover, particularly those with coughs, colds and ailments.

We took a larger group than normal this year and I was delighted to hear so many positive reports from the staff about the behaviour and good manners of our Crescent children.  It has worked out well this year with the residential visit coming just before we break up for a much-needed Easter holiday. We have also got a priority booking in for next year where we will return on a Friday with a weekend ahead to recover. Many, many thanks to all the staff who have worked so hard to make this such a successful and enjoyable trip for the children.

We had a lovely, but quiet, time back here at school and I am sure the children and staff are well ready for their Easter break. The staff have spent the last two days in meetings and training sessions on a wide range of themes including maths mastery, learning through metacognition and safeguarding. We have also spent time considering whole school targets for next year which I will be able to feedback to parents at the Welcome Evening in June.

I hope you all have a restful and enjoyable time with your families over the Easter break and we look forward to seeing you all again on Monday 29 April.

Best Wishes

Joe Thackway

School Promise Rule Of The Week

For a two or three week period this year we will be focusing on one of the sayings in the School Promise. We will talk about this in assembly and in form period. It would be great if you could discuss this with your children at home and support the messages we are emphasising in school.

We start Trinity term with the category of Good Friends and focus on the theme of good manners. Simple acts of courtesy and kindness can make such a difference to our quality of life and it is something we value very highly at Crescent, as I know you do at home.

'We use our manners all the time'

St David's House Year 6 Play Leader Training

On the first day back in the Trinity Term Year, Monday 29 April, St David's House pupils will be trained as Play Leaders so they can help work with the Pre-Prep at lunchtimes.

This is a super opportunity to learn new leadership skills with Mrs McCollin. They just need to make sure that they bring their Sports Kit to school on the first day back to school.

I look forward to seeing them all putting their new skills into action.

Pre-Prep Spanish Picnic

"If you go down to Crescent today you're sure of a big surprise" as Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 had a wonderful picnic.  We all got together for an hour of fun naming our food with the Spanish name.  The foods were our favourites, bread and butter, peppers, cucumber and carrots, crisps and cakes.  Do ask your children what they are all called.  We finished our picnic with Lemonada, yum yum.

Using our wonderful manners in Spanish, we had a great time eating and learning.

Class I & II Enjoy Shared PE

Year 1 and  Year 2 have enjoyed a shared PE lesson on Tuesday.  With the Summer Term on the way, they practised their cricketing skills together.  There was a chance to get into teams and roll and follow the ball.  We then got into two teams, Team Miss Wren and team Mr Phillips and played a game.  After everyone had had a go at batting Mrs Olner had a go, sending the ball in all directions, we had great fun running about together keeping fit.

House Swimming Gala

There were lots of great performances in the gala that particularly showed the progress that the children have made. There were no records broken but Mia (butterfly) and Eddie (freestyle) were split seconds off. St. George’s won the Year 3 and 4 overall and St. George’s and St. Andrew’s shared the Year 5 and 6 overall.

House Cross Country

For the first time, Crescent ran the house cross-country at Princethorpe. The course was set up fantastically well and the children gave it their all. Some parents braved the changing conditions that went from sunshine to hail and we were grateful for their support. It was a clean sweep for St. David’s who won both the girls and boys events.

  • Olivia M (St. David’s) won the girls race with Mia (St. George’s) a very close second and Harriett (St. David’s) third.
  • George (St. George’s) won the boys race with Archie (St. David’s) second and Noah (St. David’s) third.
