Headmaster's Message

Headmaster's Message

Dear Parents

One of my plans for this year was to get to see as many of the children away on their residential visits as I could. I got off to a great start this week with a trip into deepest Northants (unchartered territory for me) and the Year 4 and 5 visit to Rock UK.

On arriving, I was greeted by happy and excited Crescent children, clearly having a really great time with their friends, enjoying the open air and all the challenging activities. I gained a great impression of the centre as well; excellent facilities and well trained young staff. You can sometimes feel you are part of a sausage factory at these centres where the children are simply pushed though the processor but the staff here clearly had the children’s interest at heart and there was always time for the personal touch or attention to the needs of each child in the group.

I must say I also felt the Crescent staff were great ambassadors for us and went to tremendous lengths to provide a rich and exciting 3 days, gently encouraging some of the doubters and providing the support that all young children need when away from their families, even when they don’t always admit to it or show it. Many thanks to Ms Forth, Mrs Yates, Mrs Calder and Mrs Monteith; I know the children genuinely appreciated everything you did for them. Children, if you haven’t done so already, try and find a moment to say your thanks too, the teachers will really appreciate it I know.

Next Thursday we are hosting our final open evening for prospective parents of the year and I am delighted that many children will be attending and helping us to showcase our wonderful school. I would remind those children who are attending to please come into the school by the pupil entrance and make your way directly to the classroom where you are based. Parents are welcome to come into the school to help take their children to the appointed place if they are in any doubt.

We are of course all looking forward to a nice long weekend. It seems improbable I know but there is even some good weather forecast, apparently. On a bank holiday? Well, if it comes my only advice would be to get the barbecues out and enjoy it; spring is really here and it might even feel like summer. You can travel far and wide across the globe but I remain convinced that there is no better place in the world than England in May.

Crescent Pupils Help Local Hockey Club Win Regional Success

Oliver Bell and Christopher Gibson were part of the Rugby and East Warwickshire Hockey Club (R&EWHC) U12 boys team which won the Midlands regional hockey finals last weekend.

They won every match and did not concede a goal throughout the tournament. They now go on to represent the Midlands in the National Finals in a couple of weeks. Oliver and Christopher were the two youngest players in the squad of 10 which also included two past pupils, James Robinson and Ed Thomas.

A special mention should also go to all the pupils from Years 3 to 5 who represented R&EWHC in the U10s Warwickshire girls and boys tournaments. Both teams successfully progressed to the Midlands finals which were held earlier this month. The strength and depth of the hockey ability within the school is demonstrated by the fact that half of the players across these teams are pupils from Crescent School.

Many thanks to Mrs Bell for this article and Mrs Robinson for the team photo.

Thanks again to everyone who raised money for this cause. I know we all cannot wait for our puppy to get to 17 weeks old when she will be allowed to visit the school.

Lost Blue Peter Badge

During lunchtime on Thursday 26 April, a Blue Peter badge (pictured) went missing from the cloakroom. This is a very prized possession of one of our pupils, who only received the award from Blue Peter on Wednesday and it is a newly released limited edition badge.  It had been brought in to share with the school in the Good News assembly.

We are appealing for your help to locate this badge, as the pupil concern is very upset by its loss. The badge could easily have fallen into a shoe or bag so we would very much appreciate you having a good search for it at home this weekend, in case it has got mixed up in your child's belongings.
