Around The Classes

Class 1S DT

Class 1S has been designing, making, and evaluating hand puppets this week. They all decided what character they wanted to make and set about drawing and labelling their puppet thinking about what colours they wanted to use. Sewing came next, followed by decorating where features and extras were cut out and stuck on.

Finally, the puppets were played with and evaluated and some even joined forces with a friend to create a mini play.

Class 2W Computing – Minibeast Data Handling

Today in Computing Class, 2W got to show off their cross-curricular Science, Maths and ICT skills on a data handling minibeast hunt!

We firstly used tally charts and our investigation skills to collect our own data on the numbers of minibeasts that could be found in forest school area, then headed straight to the ICT suite to turn our findings data into fantastic pictograms.

Some of us even managed to display our collected data in bar charts and pie charts too!

Class 2W French Farewell

Class 2W have finished the term on a high in French! Today they performed their role-play at the vegetable stall.

Madame Tatton was the shop-keeper and the children were the customers.  All spoke with a lovely French accent and used the key phrases practised in class, such as “je voudrais” “s’il vous plait” and “merci”.

Well done children!

Class 3Y Craft Club

This week in Craft Club the children were issued with a challenge to make a maze that fits a pompom, contained inside a paper plate, that works completely, and doesn’t break when playing with it. The children had to use quite a few skills to get this design to work including thinking about the design process, such as the selection of the right materials for the task, making sure the design was precise and testing to make sure it worked properly. They had some failures along the way and had to re-think their designs/making, but each one of them finished with a working maze!

I was really impressed with this and hope that all the children will enjoy playing with their mazes at home and maybe challenging the rest of their family! If anyone wants to have a go at this activity at home then all you need is a paper plate and some imagination. Please send me a picture if you have a go!

Class 3Y ICT

Tying in with their English work on story structure and story writing, Class 3Y used the Puppet Pals animation app to create some amazing fairy tale inspired animated plays! They worked on planning stories with very clear beginnings, build-ups, problems, resolutions and endings, then used their animation skills to record them on the iPads, with true comic effect!

The Puppet Pals HD app is free to download, so if you are looking for a fun way to practice story telling and your digital skills at home, it comes thoroughly recommended!

Class 4M French Penpals

Class 4M have enjoyed exchanging letters with a primary school in Northern France, practising their written French and receiving hand-written letters from their French penpals. 4M children were delighted to open Christmas cards this week – yes, CHRISTMAS cards! The Christmas cards arrived during the Chritsmas holidays and the lockdown means that they remained in school until now!

Class 5F Science

Class 5F has been learning all about forces and using Newton meters to measure force.  They used different coloured force meters to measure different size forces and then investigated which surfaces cause more friction than others.

Class 5F Orchestra

Members of Class 5F learned to play "Yesterday" by the Beatles in their extra-curricular Orchestra group. In the group were 4 trombones, 4 cornets/trumpets, 3 flutes, 2 clarinets and a violin.

In only three weeks they were able to play to a high enough standard to record their work. Do listen via the link below and enjoy what they have achieved in such a short time.

Class 5F French

There was a tint of sadness in our Year 5 French lesson today as it is our last lesson before we switch to Spanish in the Summer term.

Children made the most of the session as we wrote a final letter to our French penpals in Northern France. So whilst it is “adieu” to French, the children and I are very much looking forward to learning Spanish, as last year’s lockdown took away this opportunity.

Class 6W French

Today, children in Year 6 learnt about French traditions for Easter. Whilst there were some common themes with the English celebrations (such as chocolate and eggs as a sign of new life), children were surprised to see that there is no Easter bunny in France; instead, the bells from French churches grow wings, fly to the Vatican to be blessed by the Pope and drop chocolate treats on their way back to France!

The children designed some Easter cards to reflect what they now know about “les fêtes de Pâques”!
