Headmaster's Message

Dear Parents and Friends of the School

I very much hope you have enjoyed a restful and enjoyable Easter break. Hopefully this has involved spending some real quality time with your children, even though you may have been hiding in your houses for some of it waiting and hoping for the rain to abate.

The good news is, the forecast for the weekend is a lot brighter and I have enjoyed watching the ground staff marking out the field for the summer activities. The warmth in the air and the blossoms on the trees give us a sense of hope and new beginnings, which is what spring is all about.

On a spring theme, thank you very much to two very helpful parents, Mrs O'Connell and Mrs Beecham, who came into school during the holiday period to prepare our new wildflower raised bed next to the school field. They have done a very tidy job I must say, and we now await some lovely little seedlings emerging out of the soil and hopefully attracting all of those pollinating insects that play such an important role in the biodiversity of the environment.

Hopefully this mini-edition to the Courier will give you all the key information you need for the return to school on Monday and you should also by now have received hard copies of the school calendar for the term. As usual this is chock-a-block with fun and educational activities for you and the children to look forward to. I hope very much to meet up with you all at some point during the next week or so and, in the meantime, wish you all a peaceful weekend.

Important Information

Outdoor Learning In The Summer Term

We are looking forward to the our Outdoor Learning programme for all of the children across the school from Years 1 to 6. This will replace swimming this term and will take place each week and in the same slot on the timetable.

Outdoor Learning will consist of a combination of Forest School activities as well as orienteering, team building and leadership skills training. This is a structured and fully planned series of activities that will develop collaborative work skills while enhancing children's growth mindset in problem solving situations. It will also give them the opportunity to learn and work outdoors during the warmer period of the year.

What to bring into school to wear:

Pupils will need:

  • a long sleeved t-shirt
  • long bottoms
  • a change of trainers and socks
  • a pair of gloves to be able to safely take part in the activities
  • their school coat or send in a suitable waterproof coat

All of this needs to be put in a named bag that can be left on their peg for the term. Please ensure all items of home clothes are named.

Reception Swimming Reminder

Reception Children will be having their 'taster swimming session' in the Trinity Term. The taster session is to show children the school swimming process, with going on the bus, getting to the swimming pool, navigating the swimming pool and meeting the Rugby School swimming teachers.

Children will all be put into buoyancy aids to begin with as swimming teachers begin their assessment process for safety at this session. It is a fun taster session and their swimming level assessment will take place in September.

Please ensure swimming kit is brought in on the morning of their swim, children can wear their own swimming costumes/swim caps for this taster but they will need to have Crescent school swimming kit for September.  This can be ordered via the uniform order form.

I would be grateful if you could complete the form below with your child's swimming information to aid with ratios etc. by Sunday 21 April 2024.

Fraudulent Links On Social Media - Reminder

Users posting fraudulent links on social media sites, usually via bogus accounts, is a common way for cyber attackers to attempt to gain credentials. These links are often posted as comments under legitimate posts, often pretending to be relevant to the original post. Clicking on the link would then prompt the user to enter credentials which would be stolen, or would attempt to download malware onto the device.

It has come to our attention that some phishing links such as those described above have been posted as comments on Crescent School Facebook posts, by unknown accounts. Our marketing team have been quick to hide and remove the comments and links, but it is important to be aware of this practice and avoid any suspicious links. Public facing social media such as the school’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter profiles can be targeted in this way, as can the social media profiles of any organisation, and we will always do our best to remove suspicious posts quickly.

The links in question purported to link to live streams of school sports matches. The school does not live stream any sports matches, and would certainly not publicly post any links in the event we were to stream these. This is one example but please do beware of this practice both on school social media posts and all other forms of social media, in order to protect your accounts and data.
