Headmaster's Message

Dear Parents

The sad news of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II has changed the mood in school on this final day of the first week. The children came back on Monday in excellent spirits and I have been delighted with the hard work and kindness I have witnessed in the corridors and classrooms. Particular special mentions should go to the new pupils and the Reception class who have settled in so nicely to their new environment, as well as the Year 6 buddies who have worked so hard to make Reception feel welcome.

As a school this morning we met together to reflect on the life of the Queen. Our assembly was an unusually sombre one, where we shared memories and the children watched in silence some images showing the different phases of the Queen’s life. Despite the change in mood, the children coped very sensibly with the occasion and were listening, thinking and reflecting on a very special person in all of our lives.

We finished with a prayer of thanks (see below) to the Queen for her seven decades of unstinting service to the country and shared the hope that the example that she set will help us all to be better neighbours and citizens in the years ahead.

With best wishes

Joe Thackway

Dear God

Everyone around the country today will be feeling sadness and a sense of loss after the death of our beloved Queen Elizabeth II.

Give us strength at this time and help us to remember all of the wonderful qualities that the queen shared with us over so many years. She was kind, she cared for others, and she gave up her own time in order to serve other people. She was steadfast and strong when times were hard and kind and caring throughout.

We thank her for all that she did in the service of this country.

Help us all to learn from her life and to use those lessons to make us better people, better citizens, looking after others and not always putting ourselves first.

On the Queen’s passing, we look to the future and pray for God to give guidance and strength to our new King, Charles III.

Amen

Important Information

Safeguarding - Pupils Arriving At School And Collection

Please ensure that you wait with your child(ren) at drop off until the school's opening at 8.15am.  It is only at this time that school becomes responsible for all children's safe care. Before this time it is a parental duty.

Please note, however, that all children can be brought to the front door at any time from 7.45am to 8.15am where they will be welcomed and looked after by our Early Bird staff as appropriate for their age. This does not need to be booked in advance.

All children should be in school by 8.40am which is when the bell rings for the start of the school day.

Also, please let the school office and/or your child's form teacher know if someone else will be collecting your child at the end of the day. We cannot release pupils without this information.

Many thanks

Mr Webb
Designated Safeguarding Lead

Absence Requests For Holiday During Term Time Reminder

Parents are discouraged from taking pupils out of school during term-time because of the impact it has on their learning. Should this be unavoidable, permission should always be sought in advance from the headteacher. I am only able to pre-authorise absences on certain grounds such as religious observances and special family occasions.

Please ensure you submit any absence requests in good time, through either My School Portal or via the office email admin@crescentschool.co.uk.

Learning Mentor Meetings

We will once again be running our successful Learning Mentors initiative that supports our emphasis on building self-regulation for the children. On Friday 30 September the children will have a 10 minute meeting with their mentors where they will agree targets for the year that they can take full personal responsibility for.

Junior da Vinci Badges

It has been wonderful to see the children return this week for a brand new school year. We are certainly looking forward to awarding many full Junior da Vinci student awards over the year.

Just a reminder that this year we are ‘resetting’, so last year’s Junior da Vinci badges should no longer be worn as part of uniform. Only badges awarded this academic year 2022-2023 should be worn.

Also look out for our da Vinci information evening later this term, where you can learn more about the origin of the programme and how it works across the Princethorpe Foundation.

Here’s to a great year of hard work and many Junior da Vinci students.
