Headmaster's Message

Dear Parents

We hope you have had a lovely summer and we are looking forward to seeing all of the children back in school on Monday morning.

We recognise this final weekend of the holiday can be an anxious time for some children; it is totally normal to feel worried about changes and with this in mind all of the staff are ready to offer a super friendly welcome to them all when they come in.

All children are to enter school through the pupil entrance at the side of school from 8.15am – 8.40am. We recommend around 8.30am so children have a little time in the playground getting used to their surroundings before going in at 8.40am.

Parents of children new to the school (including those starting in Reception) are welcome to come through to the playground with their child if they wish. There will be duty staff on hand from 08.15am, and they will be joined by all of the staff and form teachers from 8.25am to welcome you and your children.

If you require your child to be dropped off before 8.15am, then Early Birds is available from 7.45am in the Library as usual. Please approach the school by the main entrance where you will be met and able to hand over your child.

During the day, Reception children will each be allocated a ‘buddy’ from Year 6 who will help them settle in.

Please collect your child at 3.30pm (Reception) and 3.45pm all other years.

With best wishes for the term ahead.

Co-Curricular Clubs - Michaelmas Term

Thank you to you all for signing up for the co-curricular choices, with 43 clubs on offer there are plenty to chose from.

Co-curricular starts on Monday 12 September, we look forward to starting our new routines that week.

Forest School
Unfortunately, we are not going to be able to run the forest school co-curricular club at the start of this this term. The unusually dry conditions that we have experienced over the last two months have resulted in very little growth taking place in the forest area. The ground is very dry and those plants which have survived the drought need our further protection. In line with forest school guidance, in order to protect this space for future use we will not be able to run this club, until further notice.

After School - Collection of Children from After School In The Horton Centre

Important information for parents.

From the beginning of this term the system for collection from After School will be via the electronically controlled entrance gate next to the car park that will allow parents to be buzzed through, using an intercom and camera system.

Parents or guardians who want to collect their child should go to the side gate and press the buzzer where staff will approve entry.

Please ensure the gate closes after you enter and leave.

The mobile number for afterschol is no longer to be used.  After School can be contacted on 01788 523850 for emergencies only and not to advise of arrival.

School Crossing Update

Chris (Crossing Patrol) is recovering from an accident and will not be on patrol for week commencing 5 September 2022.

Unfortunately Warwickshire County Council do not have any relief patrol to cover Chris and have asked parents/carers to take extra care when crossing the road.

Nut Free School

Crescent School, along with the other schools of the Princethorpe Foundation, aims to be a nut-free zone. Whilst we cannot guarantee that children won’t come into contact with nuts or products with nut traces whilst at school we endeavour to reduce this risk as far as we can.

The aim of this strategy is to reduce the risk to those children and adults who may suffer an anaphylactic reaction if exposed to nuts to which they are sensitive. The school aims to protect children who have allergies to nuts yet also help them, as they grow up, to take responsibility as to what foods they can eat and to be aware of where they may be put at risk.

Our 'Nut-Free Zone' means that the following items should not be brought into school:

  • Packs of nuts
  • Peanut butter/Nutella sandwiches(we have had a small number of these brought in recently)
  • Fruit and cereal bars that contain nuts
  • Chocolate bars or sweets that contain nuts
  • Sesame seed rolls (children allergic to nuts may also have a severe reaction to sesame)
  • Cakes made with nuts and marzipan

No nuts are used in any of the food prepared on site at our school.  Our suppliers provide us with nut-free products. However, we cannot guarantee freedom from nut traces.

It is worth noting that there are currently children in school with a known nut allergy.  Exposure to nuts for these children could result in serious consequences. I know that you, like me, would do anything reasonably possible to prevent this from happening.

We ask all parents to support us in this policy by providing nut-free mid-morning snacks and not using nuts in cakes provided for bake sales or fund-raising events.

Important Information - Dogs On Site

In line with many, if not all, primary aged schools, dogs are not allowed on the main school site. If you come to school with a dog please keep it on a lead and avoid coming onto the main site beyond the drop off gate (the one next to the parents’ noticeboard).

With thanks for your understanding and support on this important health and safety matter.

Pre-Prep Learning Platforms Information Session

Monday 12 September 2022 - 7.00pm

We are very much looking forward to sharing with you the online learning resources that are accessible to you at home to work on, alongside your child, to support their learning further.

This will be run as a Teams meeting on Monday 12 September at 7.00pm. The link will be sent through to you prior to the event.

If you have questions please submit them through the meeting chat function and we will endeavour to deal with them then or they can be sent to your child's Form Tutor. If you are unable to make the time of the meeting, we will be recording it and will send it along with any resources to all parents in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.

Around The Classes

Accelerated Reading

We are looking forward to the children in Years 4, 5 and 6 coming in and telling us about the books that they have been reading over the summer. Remember, we like the children to only quiz on one book from the holiday as reading is not a competition or a memory test - the most important thing is that the children have enjoyed reading.

Year 6 will have also read War Horse over the summer as a set book, this will really benefit their start to their English learning about Historical Fiction.

Year 3 will be shown how to use Accelerated Reading over the next couple of weeks, there is also an information session for parents to learn about the scheme and other platforms on Tuesday 20 September, more details will be sent out soon.

Accelerated Reading in the IT suite will not commence until Tuesday 6 September.

School Promise

School Promise Rule Of The Week

For a two or three week period this year we will be focusing on one of the sayings in the School Promise. We will talk about this in assembly and in form period. It would be great if you could discuss this with your children at home and support the messages we are emphasising in school.

This week’s promise is an excellent one to start the year with and is in the category of Good Friends:

‘We are kind to each other’
