Headmaster's Message
Dear Parents
It has been a very exciting week for our Year 6 pupils as they put the finishing touches to their dramatic interpretation of the Demon Headmaster. Their first performance was on Tuesday to the school, with the added pressure of a film crew and of course the prospect of a DVD that will be replayed back at home no doubt for years to come. The rest of the children absolutely loved what they saw and it has been a real talking point amongst them since. On Thursday, it was the turn of the parents to see the finished play and it was received with rapturous applause at the end. Great credit indeed to Miss Thompson for her very clever stage management, with the play being performed 'in the round' as well as the other staff involved, notable amongst them Mrs Barnes. Ultimately, the stars of the show were the children themselves and once again they showed just what a multi-talented group of young people they are.
Looking back across the year, and the variety of performances that we have enjoyed, as well as the success of our children in the LAMDA examinations, it is an appropriate time to reflect on the great strength of drama in the school. I know it is something that the children very much enjoy being involved with.
With the lovely weather continuing, we have also had plenty of sports fixtures to enjoy as well as quite a bit of success. We got things off to a sunny start with a successful cricket tournament at Rugby School on Sunday. This followed on from our swim relay team taking part in the national finals at the Olympic Pool on Saturday. Thank you to Mr Phillips and Mrs Calder for their considerable efforts with these events. This was all followed with athletics on Monday, with three children now qualified for the national finals, U11 girls cricket on Wednesday, and the younger boys getting their go on Thursday over at Bilton Grange. The schedule for next week looks similarly exciting! Well done to all our sports boys and girls and we look forward to plenty more action before the end of term, not least of which being the sports days on the 25 June (Pre-Prep and Upper School) and 26 June (Reception and Nursery).
My assembly this week was also based on a sporting theme, looking forward to the World Cup and considering the selection difficulties that Gareth Southgate is currently having. We thought about the wide range of skills needed to put together a successful team, sporting or otherwise, and how everyone can contribute according to their own personal abilities. I thought it probably better to get my World Cup message into assembly nice and early, before England's inevitable exit in the early stages. I say that partly in the hope that by saying that they will do the opposite and actually win a few games. We will see.
I will be at Coventy Cathedral on Saturday to see our wonderful choir in action, so I hope to see some of you there.
