Dear Parents

Welcome to the first Courier of the new Summer Term. This is a somewhat abbreviated version of the newsletter and there will be lots of information to come next week regarding the curriculum plans for the term ahead.

It has been a really positive start to term, with plenty of lovely sunshine (why didn’t we get that during the holiday?) and the children have all come back in good spirits and looking forward to an exciting term ahead.

One thing I would like to remind you all of is the New School Promise information meeting in the main hall at 4.00pm after school next Tuesday 24 April. Please do come along if you can make it. The children will also be coming home that day with a Z-style card copy of the promise for you to read through together and sign at home, so please keep a look out for that.

As the term progresses we will be talking about different aspects of the promise in more detail and I will try and keep you up to date with this via the Courier, so you can have discussions at home about what they ‘really’ mean. This week we focused in assembly on the idea of being a good citizen, particularly when we visit other countries around the world and discover new cultures and traditions.

A number of people asked me about the camping trip I mentioned that I was planning with my sons. Well, we did it, we camped near the summit of Helvellyn in the midst of a dense cloud alongside a frozen tarn. As night fell, this resulted in the very rare and disorientating experience of complete and utter darkness, where you could quite literally not see even the faintest sign of your own hand in front of your face. I think I found this more disconcerting than my boys did so I just kept quiet and tried to panic in silence.  We survived and summited in the morning before anyone else was up there. For a few brief moments the cloud even cleared and we could see the stunning views, covered in ice and snow. Quite an adventure.

Let’s hope the current weather is a sign of better things to come and I hope you all enjoy a wonderful weekend.

Parking Complaints

Dear Parents

I have once again received complaints regarding the parking around school.  This inlcudes parking across driveways and parking on pavements/near the junction in Dalkeith Avenue.

It is not acceptable to park in such a way that prevents residents accessing their property.  Im sure you would feel the same regarding your own homes if something similar occured.

Please remember that we must be considerate of our neighbours, in the same way we would hope visitors to our own home streets would be.  The safety of the children must also be a paramount concern and I would urge everyone to drive and park with this in mind on all occasions around the school site.
