Bwengu Projects Update

Over the summer holidays we received news from Bwengu Projects Malawi on how the money raised by Crescent School was being spent.

Last school year, Year 4 chose to fund raise for the much-needed refurbishment of Namatubi School in Chitipa, in the most northern part of Malawi. The project included eight classrooms used by 857 5 to 14-year-olds. The Year 4 children worked incredibly hard organising lots of events and smashed their fundraising target raising a huge total of £2,011.

Work on the eight classrooms was well underway with the outside walls, drains and steps finished and windows and doors installed. The charity shared these photos of the work taking place.

As well as repairing the classrooms, the £2,011 raised by the children will also be funding the purchase of benches that will allow 250 children to sit in their classrooms for the very first time.

A really big thank to everyone who supported Year 4’s incredible fundraising efforts this year.

Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader has had a bit of a face lift over the summer. We will be sending home the new Home Connect letter next week, so that you as a parent can be informed of your child's quizzing. Please note this is a different URL to previous years, so any links will need to be updated.

We are looking forward to the children in Years 4, 5 and 6 coming in and telling us about the books that they have been reading over the summer. Remember, we like the children to only quiz on one book from the holiday as reading is not a competition or a memory test - the most important thing is that the children have enjoyed reading.

Year 6 will have also read War Horse over the summer as a set book, this will really benefit their start to their English learning about Historical Fiction.

Year 3 will be shown how to use Accelerated Reader over the next couple of weeks, there is also an information session for parents to learn about the scheme and other platforms on Tuesday 19 September, more details will be sent out soon.

Accelerated Reading in the IT suite will not commence until Tuesday 5 September.
