Inaugural 'Mastery Day' For Crescent Pupils

Monday 5 February 2018

We will be holding our first ‘Mastery Day’ on Monday 5 February. One of our school targets in the classroom this year is to provide opportunities to demonstrate mastery. All pupils will take part in this theme day in mixed age groups and be presented with tasks, puzzles, projects and conundrums all connected to the theme of ‘Party!’. Children will work together to reach conclusions, answers and solutions through using the skills they have learned so far.

We hope it will be a most enjoyable day for children and a fascinating day for staff to watch the pupils shine and rise to the challenges planned.

We look forward to sharing the results of our day, soon.

Maths For Parents Workshops

Monday 12 to Thursday 15 February 2018

Please look out for the invitation to our curriculum workshops; this time it is the turn of Mathematics.  They will run from 9.05am - 10.05am from Monday 12 to Thursday 15 February. Different classes will be invited in on different days, as stated in the letter.

Our focus for these workshops is ‘Mastery’.  Our whole school target this year is to provide opportunities for children to demonstrate ‘Mastery’.  In mathematics, this manifests itself through investigation work, puzzles, problems, application and pattern identification. It also includes the ability to explain strategies, solutions and answers.

Please come and join us for this valuable opportunity with your child to see techniques and expectations demonstrated in class, with a few ideas of how support could be consistent at home.

Return the slip on the invitation to your child’s Form Tutor; places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. We look forward to sharing our classrooms with you.

Accelerated Reader - 500,000 and 1,000,000 Words

A big well done to Jay Patil for reading 500,000 words and to Idan Dar, Isabelle Slaytor and Christopher Gibson for reading a million words.

I wonder how many books the children read to achieve these high numbers?
