Headmaster's Message

Headmaster's Message

Dear Parents,

We are two now weeks into term and the children are settling back into their routines and getting down to the serious business of their school work and learning. I always think that the first term of the school year is the one where a great deal of the hard work is done and the foundation is set for the terms that lie ahead. After the initial period of finding your feet and getting to know your new form teacher, and in some cases classmates, the children are now steadily getting into their Maths, their English, their homework and all the other things that make up their varied day in school.

I will be going into lessons over the next two weeks and tracking the children through their day so that I can get a really clear idea of how things are working from a child's perspective. Hopefully, this insight will enable me to give helpful and constructive feedback to the staff.

We had our first Good News Assembly of the term this morning and it was lovely to be able to praise the children for all the good things that I have seen and heard in my fortnight here. There are so many lovely practices at the Crescent, the younger children are routinely cared for by the older ones and there is a real sense that everybody sees each other as a fellow member of a common community. I announced in assembly that I will be introducing a Crescent Promise Award this term for children who go over and above the norm in their social interactions and recipients will be mentioned in this newsletter. Watch this space!

I hope you are enjoying the new format of the electronic newsletter and we are of course looking for ways we can improve this and finesse our communication over the next few weeks. We will be sending out a good deal of information on all aspects of the good running of the school via this medium so please do keep checking these weekly bulletins.

With all good wishes for a peaceful weekend,

Joe Thackway
Headmaster

Thank You From Mrs Clayton And Mrs Boys

Dear Parents and Children

Thank you so much to everyone for making our last term at Crescent so special. Your kind words, cards and lovely presents were very touching and very much appreciated. Thank you to the children for making such a wonderful memory book. We had a lovely time reading your messages.

We hope that the new term will be a very happy and successful one. We will miss being part of the school on a daily basis, but we are looking forward to hearing news from the teachers of the exciting things that are going on.

With very best wishes,

Mrs Clayton and Mrs Boys

Free To A Good Home!

Thanks to a generous gift of a piano from Princethorpe, our boudoir grand piano, which has done 20 years' sterling work in the Hall, is being offered free to anyone who has the room for it. It's in good condition and is on a stand with wheels which makes it easy to move. It also has a cover. We can offer help with moving it if necessary. Please contact Mrs Barnes at jbarnes@crescentschool.co.uk if you are interested.

Summer Refurbishment Open House

Monday 18 September from 3.45pm

You will be aware that the school has undergone some considerable refurbishment and improvement work over the summer. This has included the complete recabling of the school network, the installation of new servers and the installation of new PCs throughout the school. The entrance area and library have been reconfigured and completely refurbished and the hall has undergone a major face lift. In the playground we have put in a new all weather playzone, which will mean the play space for the children will be much improved.

We would like to invite parents and carers into the school on Monday 18 September from 3.45pm onwards to come and view these new improvements. Tea, coffee and refreshments will be available to all.

Junior da Vinci Presentation

Monday 18 September from 4.00pm

Are you interested in learning about the new Junior da Vinci award system at the Crescent? It is an exciting new initiative being implemented in school to allow all children to be rewarded for being the best that they can be in all areas of the curriculum and beyond.

If yes then please join me on Monday 18th September from 4.00pm in the School Hall after looking around our refurbishments and enjoying our refreshments.

I look forward to sharing this new venture with you.

Kindles

Kindles are allowed in school from Year 3 for the children to read from. It is important that reading is accessible as possible for children and often books are cheaper online. The children only need to be reading one book rather than have a school book and a home book, one book can do both jobs and will save on confusion for the child.

If you decide that your child can bring their Kindle in then it is for reading ONLY. There will be no internet access. The Kindle will be the child's responsibility and any breakages are not our responsibility.

Please be reassured there are more than enough books in school for your child to enjoy and there is no necessity for your child to have a Kindle, it is just a different way to access books if you wish to.

Draycote Water Sponsored Walk

It was great to see so many parents, children and staff at Draycote Water last Sunday. All walking, cycling, scooting and running a lap of the reservoir, in order to raise money for us to "name a puppy". It was pretty windy but we all managed to just about stay dry.

It was also great to see some new faces and for the events to receive support from new members of the Crescent community.

Well done everyone and please remember to send your sponsorship forms back by Monday 25th September.

FOC Dates For This Term

We have now agreed all the dates for this term and the events are as follows:
