Headmaster's Message

Headmaster's Message

We haven't yet seen the traditional warm and sunny weather that normally welcomes us back to school in September but the cool and rather wet conditions haven't dampened the children's enthusiasm during the week. I have had some great feedback from children and parents about their start to the term and I hope this a sign of things to come.

It was a pleasure this week to announce the new positions of responsibility in Year 6. I know this is a great cause for celebration for those who have been chosen but I would also say to those who are disappointed to try to bounce back and show their teachers they have the qualities needed to cope with setbacks and still stay firmly on the right course. We will of course be thinking next about Prefects for the year and the first of these appointments will be made shortly after half term. I know all the Year 6 children joined together in offering sincere congratulations to the new post holders. This really has the makings of a great group at the top of our school; there are so many sound characters in the year group who genuinely set an excellent example to us all.

It is rather a momentous weekend for the Thackway family as we send our eldest son James off to start his degree course at Nottingham University. Inevitably, at times like these you start to think back to the early days of your child's life and reflect on the happiness and joy you shared as they grew up. Hopefully, you are able to reflect on a job well done but there will be, for me at least, a slight sense of sadness, as we say our goodbyes and he starts a new phase of his life. One lesson that I have learnt from my children is that they all have in built propensities and talents and a large part of your job as a parent is to give these a voice and allow your children to develop in their own way. Something to bear in mind I am sure as families start to think ahead to the day when secondary school choices are made.

Enjoy your weekend.
