Formal Assessments

Year 6 have completed all their final assessments for the year in preparation for Year 7 transition meetings with their new secondary schools. Over the next two weeks, it is the turn of 5F then 4M and 3Y to take online tests in maths, science, spelling and English as well as extended writing on paper.

These tests are important for us to know where pupils are achieving against national expectations. They are particularly important to Year 5 as these are the scores that will go on any application forms that they may complete next term.

All scores will be shared with parents in the final reports.

Good luck to all the pupils involved.

Learning Mentoring Partnerships

'Learning Mentoring Meetings' are now scheduled for Friday 21 May (this is a change to the published date of Friday 14 May). This is an idea that we implemented in the Michaelmas Term as part of our whole school target, 'To embed self-regulation to achieve high performance.'

Children will meet with the same member of staff and review the academic targets they set for themselves at the beginning of the year. Children have been reviewing their targets throughout the year; this meeting was delayed from Lent Term during Lockdown. They have their targets on a postcard and will record their self-assessment on those; some children may set new targets until the end of the year.

This initiative is to give responsibility for their learning to our children from Year 1 to Year 6. Staff will not be telling them if they feel they have achieved their targets, but will only guide pupils through their books, feedback, comments, and last reports for the children to decide if they have.  We are pleased to give the children this empowerment and responsibility to strive to achieve their own set goals.

Crescent Out In Force At The Local Junior Parkrun

Crescent School children were out in force last Sunday for the recently restarted Junior Parkrun.  It was wonderful to see children from across the school taking part including Lucas and Joshua from Reception, Lewis and Zac from Year 2, Sam B, Maisie, Roisin, Alex T, Alex G and Hattie from Year 3 and Evie from Year 5. If we didn’t spot you and name check you then do let us know!

There was plenty of friendly rivalry, especially between siblings, and lots of the children gained personal bests but what was particularly wonderful though was seeing how all the Crescent children supported each other, cheering their schoolmates on and encouraging everyone, living up to the Junior Parkrun’s motto ‘It’s a run not a race’.

A super huge well done to them all!

Due to COVID restrictions the event is currently only open to children aged 4 to 10 years old.

Alyssa Plays Violin In Assembly

For our musical treat in assembly this Friday, we all enjoyed listening as Alyssa playing her Grade 4 violin piece Portsmouth, accompanied by Mrs Barnes. Good luck to Alyssa as she now prepares for her next Grade 5 ABRSM exam.
