Dear Parents

We all enjoyed a wonderful assembly earlier this week from Kieran McCullough.  Kieran is Director of Ethos over at Princethorpe College and he delivered a fun and thought provoking assembly on the theme of kindness and learning.

We learnt quite a bit about the ancient game of hurling as well as hearing some great advice from the "Kid President".  I don’t know if you have any idea who he is, I didn’t before the assembly, but he gave us some great ideas, including his top 20 "Things we should say more often".  If I had to pick my favourites I would go for are "please", "thank you", "I don’t know" and "life is tough but so are you".  The children seemed to find "Let’s Dance" and "Ahhhh!" the most amusing although I know they were also listening to the more serious ones.  I’m sure you will find him on You Tube if you want to find out more.

Part of the assembly also touched on the forthcoming Ashes clash between England and Australia.  I will be resisting the temptation to break my strict bedtime routines and watch or listen to the action through the night although if you see me unusually bleary eyed on the gate in the mornings over the next few weeks, you will know why.

Sport is of course competitive by definition and I know how the children love to compete and perform for their school.  It is such an important part of school life here and next week we have a plethora of fixtures and tournaments coming up and we do consistently perform above and beyond expectations given our size.  Good luck to the children next week, and well done to our swimmers on Tuesday as well.

We held a very well attended Reception Open Evening for prospective parents earlier in the week.  I would like to thank all the staff who came along, as well as the invaluable parent ambassadors, who gave up time from their busy personal schedules to support the school.  Inevitably, on these occasions we do have to sell ourselves to some extent, not something that teachers are always very comfortable with, so we are very glad of such help.

Easily our greatest advert on the night I suspect were the Year 6 children who showed such maturity and confidence in welcoming our guests and drew a number of admiring comments from everyone present.  I have no doubt whatsoever that, in the fullness of time, our current delightful crop of Reception children will go on to fulfil similar roles in exactly the same way as they grow and develop here.

Have a great weekend everyone.
